Telehealth— Why It’s Your New BFF!
What a crazy, stressful, scary, sad and lonely time for all of us. Many are staying at home to do our part to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus. If our jobs allow us, we are working from home – others are not able to work at all, and some are working the front lines. Any way you look at it, we are all in this together. Many have kids at home or older relatives that we are trying to protect. Whatever the situation – we want to provide some normalcy and be there for you and keep you and your loved ones safe.
Thanks to modern technology, you don’t have to miss your therapy session. You don’t have to venture out of your home to “see” our team members at your regularly scheduled time through the option of Telehealth. Many are scared off thinking “I’m not technology savvy” or “It’s awkward and I won’t like it.” So let’s be open minded and explore a little about Telehealth…
What is Telehealth and is it right for me?
1. What is it?
Telehealth is just you and your therapist connected via technology. You are still discussing issues and working on your mental health just in a different setting. (In the comfort of your own home)
2. Is it hard to set up?
It really isn’t. Your therapist sends you a link and you click it at the time of your appointment. You “sit” in a virtual waiting room until your therapist connects with you and starts your session. It’s that easy!
3. Is there a fee for it?
Most insurance companies are allowing Telehealth to be billed as your sessions were before. Check with our front desk to make sure – they will verify for you.
4. My computer doesn’t have a camera – can I still do Telehealth?
You can, it can be done without the video option. You still will be talking to the same friendly voice you are used to; it will just be an audio or phone session instead of a video one.
5. This sounds pretty good but I don’t know if I have a good spot in my house for it. Can I do this from my car?
If you are using a mobile device or laptop, sure. You don’t have to be sitting at a desk in your house to do this. Just wherever you are comfortable and feel like you are in a private environment.
Other questions? Give us a call at 217-531-4101 (Champaign) or 217-651-6801 (Danville) and we will be happy to answer them. Telehealth is a great tool that we can offer, even more so in a time such as this.
Be safe and well, everyone!
