Daily Gratitude During COVID-19

Tonight as I sit here and write this blog, the President and local officials are weighing extending federal social distancing guidelines. As all of us sit and think, “How will I pay my bills?” “Who will watch my children?” or “What if I lose my job?” gratitude seems to be the last thing that comes to mind. Truthfully, gratitude or “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”, is what we need to think about most during these times of uncertainty.

I, personally, am grateful for a loving God who daily shows me mercy and keeps my family safe and healthy. I am also grateful to those who risk their lives around the clock in order to ensure Americans are safe and cared for, such as frontline doctors, nurses and CNAs. I am grateful for truckers and airline pilots who are delivering supplies to our hospitals as well as those who are stepping up and making hand sanitizer and ventilators even though is not their designated trade or business. I am grateful for churches that have volunteered to make masks for workers in Champaign County as well as educators that have provided information, adjusted their schedules and are providing students with alternative means to succeed in their degree.

We were told that only essential businesses should remain open at this time due to spreading the virus and we at Two Roads are remaining open—because at this time of heightened anxiety and concern from our clients, “We are Essential”. Our counselors, nurse practitioners, and staff at Two Roads are concerned about your mental health and are dedicated to providing the best mental health practices and resources during this time of need. I am grateful that our country is coming together and joining forces throughout this pandemic, because we all are “in this together” and we will get through this. And also, I am grateful for all of you—our clients, partners, staff and friends. We are truly in this together.
