Spring Into Wellness
Healthy habits
Spring has finally sprung (well, some days have us questioning lol). I don’t know about you, but sometimes it feels like winter will never end. The best coping skills I have found to work for that is telling myself, “We are one day closer to spring!” on a daily basis. Another way to make it through those winter “blues,” is to simply make the best of it!
Spring is a great time to put in place some healthy habits. We often feel refreshed, energized, and motivated in the spring months with the warmer weather, longer days, and beautiful scenery.
Here are some ideas to help “put some spring in your step!”
Explore exercise opportunities that you will enjoy. It’s easier to stay with a routine when you feel like you are having fun. Also, don’t forget that exercising releases those “happy chemicals,” (endorphins) that are essential for our mood. Get outside to get some of that exercise. For example, take walks, do some gardening, ride your bike, walk your dog, fly a kite, engage in play at the park with the kids! There are so many possibilities!
Just getting outdoors, especially after a long winter, can give us the boost we need. Winter can take a toll on many of us, leading to irritability, stagnation, anxiety, and depression. Getting outdoors even for a short time can also improve your attention span.
Explore a new hobby (which can include exercise!) Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new also contributes to happiness and satisfaction while also reducing stress. It can also increase your self-esteem and add benefit to your physical health. Given that the weather is getting nicer, try a new outside hobby such walking, running, kayaking, gardening, cycling, cooking outdoors, engaging in a new sport, among many others. If you’re the artistic type, read more about healing through expressive arts.
The warmer weather may also encourage and motivate you to want to get healthier overall. During the winter months, it’s typical to gain weight due to inactivity, depressive feelings, anxiety, and the holidays. Nutrition can play a major role in how you feel. Click for tips on getting the nutrients you need for mental health. We often desire to look and feel better in our spring and summer attire. If you have been struggling with unhealthy nutrition habits, simply see your primary care provider or a nutritionist.
Positive mental health is vital to an overall healthy lifestyle as well. Have you been struggling with sadness, anxiety, grief, life stressors in general? Perhaps it’s time to reach out for the assistance of a mental health therapist. Sometimes just having a neutral, non -judgmental individual to speak to on a regular basis can have many benefits. Also, a mental health therapist can assist you in determining what activities and habits you want to implement.
Two Roads Wellness Clinic Integrative Health Services
Good news! At Two Roads Wellness Clinic, we can help with so much of this. First, we have integrative nutritionists that can assist you with your nutrition needs. We even have genetic testing that can determine what foods you can avoid for emotional and physical reasons.
Also, we now have an infrared sauna in our Mahomet office! The sauna can be beneficial for immunity boosting, weight loss, stress reduction, mental performance, skin rejuvenation, pain relief, and more.
Massage is available at our Mahomet and Champaign offices as well. Massages, my personal favorite, can assist with elevating our mood, relieving stress, decreasing pain and more.
And of course, at Two Roads Wellness Clinic, we provide mental health therapy at all of our locations.
We are here to support you, please reach out to us with questions or to schedule.
